A Case for the Holy Trinity
An Attempt to Explain the Trinity
A spoken word starts in the mind and travels on the breath. All three must be present at once for a verbal command to be heard and obeyed. God is always at work.
You’ve no doubt already heard the most famous Bible passages that reference all three Divine Persons appearing at once such as at Jesus’ baptism (Matthew 3:17), or perhaps you’re familiar with where the Father twice tells the people He is pleased with Jesus, once at His baptism (also Matthew 3:17) and once at His transfiguration (Matthew 17:5). Additionally, 2 Corinthians 13:14 makes special mention of all three aspects of the Holy Trinity. These verses aside, this article is about unveiling one possible way the Trinity can make sense to our lesser minds.
But Jesus replied, “My Father is always working, and so am I.” – John 5:17 (NLT)
God is constantly speaking into the cosmos to maintain and create, so all three aspects of the Trinity – Father, Son/Logos/Word, Holy Spirit – are always working simultaneously.
- Father – mind, source
- Spirit – Ruach (Hebrew), pneuma (Greek), breath, power
- Word – Logos, reason, plan, truth
By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And by the breath of His mouth all their host. – Psalm 33:6
Sound, Light and the Elements
Acousto-optics is the study of how sound can travel on and through light, inside a vacuum such as space and here on earth.
“In just 600 milliseconds [0.6 sec], the human brain can think of a word, apply the rules of grammar to it and send it to the mouth to be spoken…. researchers have traced this lightning-fast sequence…” – LiveScience.com (https://www.livescience.com/5780-speed-thought-speech-traced-brain.html)
The universe (all atomic/subatomic elements that comprise all other elements) is held together by sound waves.
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements [stoicheia] will be destroyed [luthEsontai] with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. – 2 Peter 3:10
- stoicheia – Greek for “building blocks” (ie. atoms, atomic elements, basic principles)
- luthEsontai – unbind, loose, dissolve
The very elements of the universe and nature will be broken apart and destroyed when the Father commands that Jesus/Logos/Reason/Truth returns to earth alongside the Spirit. Making way for the new earth presumably. (Revelation 21)
Respiration and Phonation of Speech Production
Respiration – (i.e., breathing) is the power mechanism for speech; it provides energy for the sound produced.
Phonation – the creation of voice sounds caused by the rapid vibration of the vocal folds when air passes between them.
- Pitch – The frequency of the vibration. An increase in pitch involves an increase in frequency. The frequency of vocal fold vibrations depends on the mass and length of the vocal folds and the tension
- Loudness – the intensity of the sound (aka, volume). Involves the amount of energy generated by the vibrations of the vocal folds. Intensity increases with greater air pressure from the lungs (increases the amplitude of the vibrations)
- Quality – the sound quality of the voice, also referred to as timbre (pronounced “TAM-ber”). This is affected by the pattern of movement of the vocal folds
And He is saying God shall become light and He is becoming Light. (Hebrew to Greek to English)
Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
He is the image [eikon] of the invisible God, the firstborn [prototokos] of all creation. – Colossians 1:15
Jesus is God’s eikon (Greek for “supreme expression” or “mirror-like representation” that reflects its source.) Jesus is also the Alpha. Prototokos. This is Greek for “first, pre-eminent, bring forth.” It denotes that Jesus isn’t part of creation, but the One who brought it forward (made it happen) and is the unequivocal Sovereign of creation. He existed before all else alongside the Father and Spirit.
You could try to make the argument, as many have in the past, that Jesus was/is God the Father’s avatar, which in Hebrew can mean “embodiment, incarnation, personification.” Sounds familiar, right? However, “avatar” doesn’t have the ring of 100% (divine) fullness to it, of which Colossians 2:9 tells us that Jesus has.
Now, Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world [kosmon] was. – John 17:5 (“kosmon” = “cosmos” = “universe”)
The initial/Alpha thought formed into the Alpha Word (ie. Light, reason, reality) that traveled through God’s Holy breath/power. When it was time, the Light manifest physically on earth as the man Jesus.
And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. – John 1:14
